Asking for help

I know these are not mom idea's but today is a weird day - I have a lot of thoughts that I need to get other women's opinion's on.

I wrote a little while ago about delegating .... am I selfish or less of a women because I decided to hire a cleaning service to clean my house?

Now I am asking: is it OK to ask for help?

I have NEVER been one to ask for help - i would rather do it myself then depend on someone else. This is true in both my professional life and personal life. I have always felt like if I ask for help then it's going to make me look like I can't do it myself. I also feel that if I have to ask someone to help, they might do it but they really don't want to because they didn't just offer (rather then ask).

For example: If I am cleaning the house and someone asks, is there anything I can do to help? Why would I say yes? There is obviously things that can be done that would be a big help - if they wanted to help they would just do it, right?

Am I wrong in my thinking??

  1. You are absolutely wrong in thinking that. People don't just do things unless they are your sister or brother or mom. You have to ask and it is hard. I used to have a hard time asking too -- until I just couldn't do one more thing by myself. I have always had to do everything for myself ( you are luck, you have parents -- take advantage of them! ha!) SERIOUSLY!! Imagine you having to hire someone to help you with your kids every time you needed help. Sure there are people out there who can "do it all" and kudos to them but guess what? I want to enjoy my life and be in a good mood for my kids and so I take a break when I need it... I get help when I want it. I'm not afraid anymore to say, can you please help me. You will be surprised how many people offer a helping hand. Don't feel guilty because guess what? One day they will need help and you can be there for them.

  2. I agree. I think getting someone to help you in any way quite frankly is just plain intelligent. Whenever, I try to do everything, my kids suffer. There is an abundance of people out there willing to help if you just ask. I wish I would have figured that out sooner:))

  3. We are so much alike (like that's a surprise!)!
I have the hardest time asking for help...and on top of that I am always the one people come to FOR help...(which just complicates things and makes me never feel even more uncomfortable at the thought of asking: ugh).

My dear - you are simply being intelligent. You're also helping employ someone and doing your small part to boost the economy - you're getting a little assitance (which means a lot to you) but you're also helping someone else put a few bucks in their pocket which is wonderful!

    It's a win-win friend!
